Minnesota's major roadways

This map shows the major roadways in the state. The distinctions primarily relate to federal funding designations, although interstate and U.S. highways also have more stringent design specifications (such as being at least a four-lane divided highway). Interstates and U.S. highways that are primarily federally funded are part of the National Highway System and do not change designation as they cross state borders. Minnesota highways are more likely to receive their primary funding and routing from the state, and link intra-state destinations. They may or may not continue across the state border, and if they do, they usually take on a new number. The Minnesota Department of Transportation has the responsibility for repairing and maintaining all roads shown here.
