People :
Population change, 1990-2007

From 1990 to 2007, the state grew by an estimated 822,500, from 4.4 million to 5.2 million, but that growth was not evenly spread throughout the state. Counties within 50 to 75 miles of the Twin Cities showed dramatic growth, especially Sherburne, Carver and Scott counties. The swath of growth continues up into the burgeoning lakes and recreational regions. Meanwhile, the far western and southern counties continued to lose population.
