Dinner yields dollars for endowment
More than 60 guests at the Oct. 6, 2007 Wood Scholarship Dinner heard Dr. Ann Vogel talk about how volunteers and members of the medical community are providing health care to the uninsured.
The $60-a-plate dinner at Keystone Communities in Mankato raised money for the scholarship's endowment.

Service makes one a better leader
"Community service is the commitment of time. It is the commitment of joy," said businessman, philanthropist and former legislator Glen Taylor '62. "There's a selfish reason to do community service. It will make you a better person. It will make you a better leader." Taylor was the featured speaker at the Wood Scholarship's annual fundraising dinner Sept. 30, 2006 in the Centennial Student Union ballroom.
Taylor taught Sunday school for 13 years and shared his time and talents with Mankato area organizations such as Campfire Girls and YMCA. As chairman of Taylor Corp., a billion-dollar holding company for nearly 100 printing and media companies, he has witnessed employees who've not fulfilled their potential because they did not give to their community. Said Taylor: "It's so much more wonderful to give than to receive."
