Jon Bloemendal

Jon Bloemendal's service to community is as varied as his areas of interest.

A midfielder on the Minnesota State, Mankato lacrosse team, Bloemendal helped coordinate a food drive at Mankato East High School. At Woodbury High School east of St. Paul, his participation in the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Coorps included handling the school's recycling effort and stadium cleanups after home football games. At church he assisted with the annual food drive and was one 16 youth who spent eight days in Jamaica repairing an orphanage.

Bloemendal is a graduate of the Summer Leadership School at the Grand Forks Air Force Base. He traveled to Washington, D.C. to participate in the National Youth Leadership Forum for Defense, Intelligence and Diplomacy. It was a mock scenario where each group elected a president and senior cabinet members to handle the situation of a missing nuclear warhead. Bloemendal's group -- one of nine -- was ranked first at the conclusion of the program.

Ryan Anderson

Ryan Anderson is a political animal.

On a small scale he has served as a floor representative to the campus Residence Hall Association. On the big stage he is speaker of the Minnesota State Student Association (MSSA). On the national scene he is one of three MSU students to witness Sen. Barack Obama's Springfield, Ill. presidential candidacy announcement.

An avowed Obama supporter, Anderson attended a rally in Waterloo, Iowa, where he shook the man's hand. He is working at the precinct level at MSU to aid Obama's campaign for the Democratic nomination.

A former legislative affairs coordinator for MSSA and student senator, Anderson is considering a career that would involve him in public policy. The Chanhassen, Minn. native is gaining considerable campus experience in that area, working for greater civic engagement by the student body and fighting against the rising cost of attending MSU.
