In accordance to Society for Science & the Public, the Minnesota State Science & Engineering Fair is accepting SIXTH GRADERS again this year! We understand that each school district may group its SIXTH GRADERS with the elementary grades, by themselves or grouped with the MIDDLE SCHOOL. Hence, we will permit SIXTH GRADERS to compete at EITHER of our regional fairs: Elementary Division or the Middle School/Senior High School Division. If schools PREFER to send SIXTH GRADERS to the Middle School/Senior High Division, then these SIXTH GRADERS will compete against other sixth graders, plus seventh and eighth graders. If schools PREFER to keep their SIXTH GRADERS at the Elementary School Division, then everything will remain the same for those students and these students will compete only with SIXTH GRADERS. We will offer the opportunity at either level to meet the needs of ALL OF THE SCHOOLS!
The cost per student per event is $20. Your fees help cover some of the operating costs of the fair.
Certification forms are due to our office by January 18, 2013 for the Middle School/Senior High School Division. NEW in 2013: Students advancing on to the State Science & Engineering Fair will need to turn in copies of all certification forms to regional office so that we may send these forms in one packet to the State. These forms are available online at: http://www.mnsu.edu/sciencefair/forms
The 2013 SC/SW Minnesota Regional Science & Engineering Fair - ELEMENTARY DIVISION (Grades 3-6) event date has been scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2013. The list of 2012 winners was emailed to all participating schools. If you would like an electronic copy, email science.fair@mnsu.edu
It is time to start thinking about your Science Fair projects again. Do research in something you are interested in. Be sure to get prior approval for all projects so that everyone and everything is safe. Students are encouraged to begin their research now!
