Minnesota State University, Mankato is committed to creating a safe and secure environment for all students, faculty, and staff.  The University Emergency Preparedness information has been developed to assist the University in meeting this goal.  All students and employees are encouraged to regularly review the information provided and become familiar with suggested recommendations concerning disasters or emergencies that may impact the University Community.

The recommendations are developed to minimize the negative effects resulting from an emergency.  Please read these guidelines thoroughly and become acquainted with its contents.  Keep this information in a visible and accessible for immediate reference.  Once you are familiar with the information, you will be better prepared to protect yourself and your co-workers.

In today’s society, we must be more vigilant of surrounding influences that can affect the safety of our community.  Medical emergencies, disasters, accidents, injuries, and crime can occur at any time without warning.  It is our goal that by working together we can be pro-active to emergencies in a timely manner.

In addition to being aware of the University Emergency Preparedness content, it is recommended that you sign up for our emergency notification system, Star Alert (  In an emergency affecting the University, Star Alert will send a text message to the cell number you provide and to your MavMail e-mail address.

When incidents occur on campus that pose an ongoing threat, University Security releases Personal Safety Alerts.  Personal Safety Alerts are posted on the Security website (, on posters around campus, and are available by phone on the Personal Safety Hotline 507-389-2594.

Emergency Response Guide

The [PDF] Emergency Response Guide (88 KiB) was developed to be posted in spaces around campus for quick reference in the event of an emergency. Community members are encouraged to print and hang copies in their spaces. Laminated copies are available by contacting University Security.
