Nadine B. Andreas Public Scholar/Performer in Speech Communication

The Speech Communication Department will utilize the following procedures to annually fund through the Nadine B. Andreas Public Scholar/Performer in Speech Communication program one or more public presentations. The funds awarded shall be used solely for expenses directly incurred by the presenter and the Department in managing the presentation. Funds may be used in conjunction with other programs; however, any presentation receiving even partial funding must be designated as a Nadine B. Andreas Public Scholar/Performer in Speech Communication. In 2007-2008, the Department will have $6,000.00 available for the Nadine B. Andreas Public Scholar/Performer in Speech Communication presentation(s).

The Andreas sub-committee of the Speech Communication Department (consisting of at least three faculty members and open to a graduate student and undergraduate student voting member) shall request of Speech Communication Faculty, students, and alumni the names of potential guest speakers, performers, and scholars for one or more public presentations during each academic year. The Andreas sub-committee of the Speech Communication Department shall then select one or more guest speaker, performer or scholar for a public presentation during the academic year. The Andreas sub-committee shall forward their selections to the Speech Communication Department faculty for approval. The Speech Communication Department faculty shall make the final determination and forward that selection(s) to the Department Chair. The Department Chair will notify the Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities about the selection.

The selection process shall commence no later than January 15 of the year preceding the presentation, and presenters shall be selected no later than April 15 of the year preceding the presentation. All presentations must include a portion that is open to members of the public. The presentation will include public acknowledgement that the presentation is funded through the Nadine B. Andreas Public Scholar/Performer in Speech Communication program. The chair of the Speech Communication Department will invite members of the Andreas family to the presentation.

While all events should be planned well in advance, if there are any remaining funds following the final determination by the Speech Communication Department, those funds may be used for additional presenters/speakers who may be selected at a later time by the Speech Communication Department.
