Nadine B. Andreas Creative or Research Faculty Grant
The Department of Speech Communication will use the following procedures to annually select the recipient of the Nadine B. Andreas Creative or Research Faculty Grant.
1. Full-time faculty members who are tenured or tenure-track are eligible to apply. Fixed-term faculty members are not eligible to apply. The award is available only in the summer. These awards are for creative/research work by faculty during the summer, in place of teaching. These awards are for faculty who have already during their time at MSU, Mankato have documented completion of at last two creative or research projects which have been presented publicly in an appropriate venue. The award is currently $9,000.00.
2. The Award may not be used to complete a terminal degree.
3. The Award may not be given to persons completing sabbaticals in the preceding spring nor to persons starting sabbaticals in the subsequent fall. (e.g., the award may not be “adjacent” to a sabbatical).
4. Before a faculty member may receive a second grant, all eligible and interested faculty members must have received a first grant.
5. Preference will be given to faculty members who have not yet achieved tenure.
6. Recipients will not be eligible for summer teaching in the Department during the summer in which they receive the award.
7. Each recipient will identify a consecutive eight-week period in the summer for intense involvement in the program.
8. During the identified eight week period, recipients may not be engaged in or accept any other salary from Minnesota State University, Mankato or from any other funding sources of fellowships, grants, summer teaching or similar professional employment.
9. A written report of the completed project will be submitted to the Chair of the Speech Communication Department and the Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities within one month following the completion of the research or creative activity period.
10. Each recipient will make an appropriate public presentation during the following year at which the public will be invited and at which the award recipient will be identified as a Nadine B. Andreas Scholar. Recipients will be encouraged to write a letter of appreciation to the Andreas family, and members of the Andreas family will be invited to the public presentation.
11. Continued full-time service to the University is required during the year following the award. If the award recipient is not able to continue at the University for the year following the award, the award will be given to another eligible department faculty member.
