CTAM Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

Thursday, September 15, 2005, Best Western Hotel, North Mankato

Present: Jill Lofald (President), Dan Cronn-Mills (President Elect), Tom Kuster (Past President), Larry Schnoor (Treasurer), Karen P. Wilson (Secretary)

Meeting was called to order at 5:45 p.m. Minutes from Saturday, May 14, 2005 were approved.

Treasurer’s Report:

Larry reported that 289 people had pre-registered for the convention. Dues paid:

39 META, 127 MSCA, 18 MDTA. 10 people paid membership but will not attend the convention. 41 students will be attending under the student grant. There will be a few late registrations. Bills for the journal came in today and the journal is in the mail. Excellent shape overall. Discussion about a few problematic emails (such as organizations paying but not completing registration forms). Larry will follow up.

CTAM Foundation Report:

Larry provided handouts detailing the contributors to the CTAM Foundation. General consensus that this handout was a great idea! The handout will be updated and summarized on the Web. There are no available funds at present because the following activities used up current available funds: The Playwrights Center New Plays on Campus Program, the Theatre Forum at the Perpich Center, the students attending the CTAM conference (student grants). Tomorrow at the luncheon Larry will make an appeal for donations to the CTAM Foundation. Clarification of procedures: the Executive Council submits requests and the MN Council Foundation oversees the CTAM Foundation.

President’s Report:

Jill raised the question ‘Is there a way to stay better connected’? Discussion about the Arts Education Consortium (which roughly replaced the MN Alliance for Arts in Education) that meets the second Wednesday of every month. Jill is looking for two high school educators to sit on this board with her. Jill also attended Arts Advocacy Day at the Capitol. Discussion followed. Difference between CTAM and Music is that many Speech and Theater teachers come from other disciplines. CTAM is also unique with the K-12, College/University combination. META might be a better organization to serve on this Consortium. The Arts Consortium will not deal directly with Speech because the field of Communication has been tied with Literature in MN at the present time. Should CTAM institutionalize their presence on the Consortium? Motion: CTAM would like to remain represented on the Consortium. Motion seconded and passed.

President Elect:

Dan reported that everything is fine. The conference is ready to rock and roll.

Meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m. As requested by Jill it is noted that Gregg Sawyer spoke more than anyone at this meeting.
