September 19, 2002

The Lake Elmo Inn

Meeting was called to order at 6:10 p.m.

Present: Mike Wartman (President),  Gregg Sawyer (President Elect), Kris Lindvall (Past President), Larry Schnoor (Treasurer), Dan Cronn-Mills (Newsletter Editor), Mark Braun (Journal Editor), Cynthia Carver (Historian), Karen P. Wilson (Secretary)

Reports:

Treasurer: Larry Schnoor provided a convention update:181 pre-registered, 150 have paid , 9 members have taken the non-convention package.  Approximately $13,500 in budget before expenses.  Larry has the awards for Outstanding Individuals. Distributed a CTAM on the Road report and a new Member Booklet.

Newsletter: Dan Cronn-Mills reported that the website is being updated.  Send him invitations to Speech contests and he will put these on the web.  Proposal:  last few years we have not done an April newsletter (carries State High School League results, etc) and he suggested that we continue this practice- would free up funds for the postcard, etc.  Discussion followed.  Consensus was to continue in this manner

Journal: Mark Braun reported that he will need to put a jack -o -lantern on the cover of the next journal as there is a bottle neck and it won't go out until early October.  Can we use the MSU Print Shop to try and avoid these delays?

President: Mike Wartman gave an update on the Board of Governors meeting.  Replacements for the Board are needed.  Connie Stock, Judy DeBoer, Kathy Knudson-Mestnik and Eileen Lambert need to be replaced. Gregg and Mike will follow up.

Convention Update: Gregg Sawyer gave an update on the convention.  Parking may be a problem.  Signage will be up to assist here.  CTAM Lounge sign will be put up.  There is no busing to the boat.  Only had one cancellation of a presenter and Gregg filled this.  Summary of the keynote speaker was provided.  Breakfast meeting will include session conference sheets including contact information to assist with conference session planning for next year.

Insurance for convention:

Jim Graupner contacted Larry Schnoor citing school district concerns about an outside group using the school.  CTAM took out a $150 insurance policy for the duration of the convention.  Discussion followed about precedence for the future and it was decided that the location and specific site insurance coverage would determine such needs.

Meeting was adjourned at 6:33 p.m.

Next Meeting:  Saturday, Sept. 21  2:00 (Meet in registration area)

Respectfully Submitted,

Karen P. Wilson, Secretary
