CTAM General Business Meeting Minutes
Saturday, September 18, 2004, Holiday Inn North, Arden Hills

Meeting was called to order at 8:05 a.m. Minutes from September 20, 2003 were approved.

President's Report: Tom Kuster began the meeting with introductions and welcomes. Called on Jill Lofald for a short give-away of T-shirts, sweatshirts and CTAM Journals.

Tom introduced the members of the Executive Board and the Board of Governors. Thanks to all of them and to Jill Lofald for the planning of this conference- well done!

Special thanks to Bethany, Concordia, MNSCU, St. Olaf, Don Rice, META and MSCA for providing hospitality for the conference.

CTAM 2005: September 16-17, 2005 at the Best Western (Hwy 169) in Mankato.
Start thinking about the site for 2006!

Treasurer's Report: Larry Schnoor reported that we started the convention with $7565. 280 people registered and attended the convention. 17 people registered but could not attend for a total of 297 registered for this convention. The conference received a $3500 grant from the CTAM Foundation for support of 21 student attendees. The CTAM Foundation also provided a grant of $2500 for the MN Playwrights' Center News Plays on Campus Collaboration. Many members made contributions to the CTAM Foundation- thanks! A motion was made for CTAM to donate $500 to MDTA to support the special August meeting to select the debate topic. Seconded. Motion passed.

Newsletter Editor's Report: Dan Cronn-Mills reported that he appreciates receiving articles for the newsletter. Keep referring to the CTAM website and CTAM List serve. If you have changed your email since last year please change your email address on the list serve. Job postings are now on the web site as well.

Historian's Report: Cynthia Carver reported, in absentia, that the archives are still being carefully kept in the corner of her office.
Contributions continue to be accepted.

Journal Editor's Report: Nanette Johnson-Curiskis reported, in absentia, that the annual journal is out. She received 16 articles, 7 of them were included, 325 copies of this issue were printed and distributed. If you have any articles, ideas, book reviews, especially from middle school and secondary teachers this would be appreciated.

Elections:
President Elect: Dan Cronn-Mills was nominated. Motion was made, seconded. Unanimously elected.
Treasurer: Larry Schnoor was nominated. Motion was made, seconded.
Unanimously elected.
CTAM Representative to MSHSL Board of Directors: Gregg Sawyer introduced these elections. Only high school educators can elect this person and only one vote per school is allowed. Nominated: Steven Fetzik, Jeff Redman, Mark Quinlan. Paper ballots were distributed and collected. Mark Quinlan was elected.
MSHSL Class A Representative Assembly position:
Class A schools can nominate and elect (one person from each Class A school can vote). Cliff Janke from Fairmont and Terri Leonard from Hermantown were nominated from the floor. By show of hands, Cliff Janke was elected.

Awards: Congratulations to those who were recognized at yesterday's luncheon:
-Outstanding Individual in Communication and Theater: Jill Lofald, Roxy Janke, Wendy Short Hays, Cliff Janke, and Cindy Larson- Casselton.
-Dan Cronn-Mills received the Outstanding Professor Award from the National Speakers Association and the Distinguished Service Award from MSCA.
-Jim Studhar received A Coach of the Year Award.
-Henry Herbert and Steve Estenson received AA Coach of the Year Awards.

Other Business:
Darlene Olson from Hastings High School reminded everyone about the American Alliance for Theater in Education (AATE). Next year's AATE conference is in Chicago at the Palmer House. For more information contact Darlene.

Larry Schnoor reminded everyone to please return their name badge holders.

Roseanna Ross, St. Cloud State University, mentioned that she has brochures about the college on the table in the lobby.

Gregg Sawyer mentioned that the Board of Teaching is creating a 15-member committee (Pam Paulson, convener) to discuss Th/Dance licensure. Jill Lofald will be contacting the committee about including a rep from CTAM.

Passing the Gavel:
Tom Kuster thanked everyone for the support that he has been given as President of CTAM. He introduced the new President of CTAM, Jill Lofald.

Jill began with thanks and a reminder to read her letter in the convention packet as an introduction to her leadership style and goals. Everyone who presented or who served on a panel was asked to stand and be officially thanked and recognized. Be sure to fill out the conference evaluation and the survey in your packet. Be sure to submit conference proposals for next year. Please clarify whether this is a wish or an actual offer to lead a session. Thanks to Jill Lofald for her wonderful conference planning.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:55 a.m.
