Dear Speech Coaches and Competitors,
The Speech Communication Department and the forensic coaching staff of Minnesota State University, Mankato are pleased to announce the Riverbend Speech Institute, to be held June 23 – 27, 2008. The Riverbend Speech Institute will offer comprehensive, quality and fun training in competitive speech communication activities for area high school students.
At only $400.00 per student—which includes room and board—we hope
to offer the best value in speech training in the region. The Riverbend Speech
Institute will provide your students with the opportunity to:
• Develop their public speaking skills
• Hone their performance skills
• Train in all 12 events sanctioned by the MSHSL including the 6 speech
events sanctioned by the National Forensic League
• Improve memorization
• Learn advanced research techniques
• Learn how to analyze and cut literature
• And much, much more…
The Riverbend Speech Institute will be held on the campus of Minnesota State University, Mankato in Mankato, Minnesota. The MSU campus offers students access to the most complete and accessible libraries in the region, the largest and most experienced coaching staff in the area and the opportunity to become part of the Maverick tradition of excellence. Students enrolling at the Riverbend Speech Institute will benefit from working with nationally ranked forensic coaches and competitors. Minnesota State University has established itself as one of the premier institutions for the study of competitive speech activities. In recent years, MSU has hosted the American Forensics Association-National Individual Events Tournament, introduced the first Master of Fine Arts in Forensic Coaching in the United States and is developing a strategic partnership with the National Forensic League to provide training to more than 6500 high school speech and debate coaches across the country. The faculty and staff at Minnesota State University have presented dozens of scholarly papers on forensic coaching and competition. Their research has been published in the most respected journals in communication studies and forensics including Text and Performance Quarterly, Argumentation and Advocacy, Communication and Theater Association of Minnesota Journal and the National Forensic Journal.
