Secretary-Treasurer’s Report - David Cowan

Club Secretary-Treasurer David Cowan indicated that $8,114.21 had been spent by the Club since July 1, 1998, the beginning of the Club’s fiscal year. [The Club has an approved $25,050 twelve month spending and income plan.]

Of the $11,452 in encumbrances not yet paid, $8,935 is committed to Corporate Graphics for the Club’s memento calendars which were just distributed. January. Another $2,517 remains encumbered off of an estimated $3,060 set aside for the Mankato Parking Corporation to cover the cost to Club members using their "free" parking ramp game day passes.

Blue Line Social Committee Report

Cheryl Regan reported on the success of the Friday, January 8th, formal reception jointly sponsored by the Blue Line Club and Norwest Bank. Therevised budget plan was based on 500 servings @ $4 each, for a total of $2,000 split 50/50 between the two sponsoring organizations. The final cost is yet to be determined.

The Club’s 1998-99 budget had included $1,500 for a reception of this size. Cheryl commended Board members for assisting as "greeters" during the event.

Let’s Play Hockey Display Ads Published

Board members reviewed the display ad placed by Athletics Don Amiot in Let’s Play Hockey promoting MSU’s Blue Line Club membership. It was noted that the ad offered a "bonus" if you ordered your 19999-2000 Blue Line Club membership now . The bonus was free Blue Line Club section tickets for the remainder of this season’s home games. The rates for next year were published as $750 + tax for an Individual Membership and $1,500 + tax for a Corporate Membership.

Along with the display ad, the magazine wrote a nice news story about Minnesota State’s hockey program. The Club was not charged for the ad as the general hockey program budget absorbed the cost.

Dan Mundahl Donation

Board members expressed appreciation for the wonderful gift received from Dan Mundahl. Mundahl paid for the enlargement and mounting of two giant team pictures which now grace the walls of the second floor of the Mankato Civic Center. One wall hanging was a picture with autographs of the Minnesota State men’s hockey team, and the other wall hanging was of the women’s team.

Annual Meeting Set for Saturday, February 20th Before Air Force Game

The Secretary-Treasurer was instructed to mail out Annual Meeting notices to Club members announcing that the Club’s Annual Meeting would be held on Saturday, February 20th, at 5:45 PM at the Mankato Civic Center. Four of the Board’s nine voting members will have their terms expire. These include:

  • Pat Keogh
  • Larry Morales
  • Brad Reeves
  • Jim Turk

The term of the members elected to these seats will be two years, expiring in February, 2001. Article VIII, Section 2 of the Club’s Bylaws require that the Annual Meeting be held each February.

Cost of Blue Line Club Membership and Season Tickets for Next Season

The group then discussed how it was going to promote Club membership renewals and the recruiting of new members what with the $750/$1,500 price for Individual Memberships and Corporate Memberships respectfully. This year the price was $600/$1,200 plus tax. What additional value can be promoted other than next year will be the first season that Minnesota State will be a full member of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA)? The existing season ticket price of $144 would also go up to $200.

Minnesota State Student Affairs Vice President Margaret Healy indicated that the Board should not expect any reduction in the number of seats now committed to student fans. Club President Kent Schwickert reported on the U of M’s standing room only ticket sales and how those fans may get a seat should season ticket holders fail to show up and claim their reserved seating.

Adjournment

Without objection the informational session disbanded at 4:58 PM.
