Secretary-Treasurer's Report - David Cowan
Club Secretary-Treasurer David Cowan indicated that the only significant change since the last financial report submitted on 11 January 1999 was that $8,935 had been paid to Corporate Graphics for printing the Club's memento calendars. Since July 1, 1998, from its $25,050 budget the Club has spent $18,463.63. With $1,102.58 encumbered for projected costs associated with Blue Line Club member parking ramp passes, a balance of $5,483.79 remains.
1999-2000 Men's WCHA Hockey Ticket Pricing/Club Membership Costs
MSU Intercollegiate Athletics Director Don Amiot and Athletics Promotion Coordinator Cheryl Regan then presented a proposed pricing sheet affecting Blue Line Club membership charges and season ticket costs for next season. It was reported that the price for all season tickets must include a $36 fee for the three WCHA playoff games,. If MSU should host the games, our ticket holders will be issued tickets. If we do not host the playoff games, the $36 fee will be credited toward the next year's ticket cost. Refunds will be issued only to ticket holders who do not renew their order for the next year.
Instead of the $750/$1,500 Club charges for Individual Memberships and Corporate Memberships respectively, now it appears that the charges will be $850/$1,700, which is a major hike from the $600/$1,200 now charged.
Sales Goals for Next Season
Board members reviewed a proposal which lists these sales goals for next year:
1998-99 1999-2000 | Actuals | Goals |
Blue Line Club Individual Memberships | 120 @ $600 | 150 @ $750 |
Blue Line Corporate Memberships | 112 @ $1,200 | 140 @ $1,500 |
Season Tickets | 972 @ $144 | 1,215 @ $200 |
Totals | $ 346,368 | $565,500 |
$219,132 (63.3%) Increase |
Jerry and Patricia Smith Memorial Authorized
The Secretary-Treasurer was instructed to purchase a flower memorial for the funeral of Jerry and Patricia Smith who were killed in an automobile accident in Mazatlan, Mexico on Saturday 6 February 1999. Jerry and Pat had been great backers of MSU hockey and Jerry was a charter member of the Blue Line Club.
Game Start Dates Discussed
Board members reviewed an suggestion advanced by Don Amiot that next season Friday games start at 7:30 PM with Saturday hockey games at 7:00 PM. Club Vice President Henry Okleshen reminded Board members that when men's basketball and men's hockey have home contests on the same night, many fans wanted to attend both and were able to take in a period or two of hockey before going up to Otto Arena to catch the men's basketball game. Those present agreed to discuss this topic again at an upcoming meeting.
Annual Meeting
The Secretary-Treasurer reminded the Board that the Club's Annual Meeting would be held on Saturday, February 20th, at 5:45 PM at the Mankato Civic Center. Four of the Board's nine voting members will have their terms expire. These include:
- Pat Keogh
- Larry Morales
- Brad Reeves
- Jim Turk
The term of the members elected to these seats will be two years, expiring in February, 2001. Article VIII, Section 2 of the Club's Bylaws require that the Annual Meeting be held each February. Pat Keogh and Brad Reeves have indicated that they do not intend to seek election to their seats.
Game Tickets for the Press
Director Jim Bullard asked why a member of the press was given a game ticket when they normally are given press passes and seated in designated areas. Don Amiot agreed to look into the matter.
Adjournment
Without objection the informational session disbanded at 5:00 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
David Cowan - MSU Athletic Department
