Secretary-Treasurer's Report - David Cowan

Club Secretary-Treasurer circulated a budget update which showed both 1997-98 financial activity and a draft of a proposed 1998-98 income and spending plan. Though a temporary surplus of $420.23, Cowan reminded the Board that there was still one more membership mailing and there was also the matter of a $108.25 of "red ink" which carryforward from the 1996-97 fiscal year. The Secretary-Treasurer urged caution in spending for the two months left of the current fiscal year.

Secretary-Treasurer Cowan moved and Director Jim Bullard seconded that the Board approve and recommend to the University the proposed 1998-99 spending and income plan circulated by the Secretary-Treasurer subsequently changed by the Board during discussion.. This plan is to be viewed as "tentative" until such time as the Secretary-Treasurer can retype it and distribute it back to the Board for final endorsement. Motion carried. [It was noted that consistent with the Club's Bylaws, the Secretary-Treasurer, as a "non-voting ex-officio" member of the Board, can make motions but cannot vote on those motions.]

A main change to the budget draft circulated by the Secretary-Treasurer was the inclusion of a $1,000 line item expenditure which would be viewed as a transfer to the Blue Line Club's Memorial Endowment deposited within the MSU Foundation, Inc.
