Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

Monday, August 11, 1998

The twenty-seventh session of the Board of Directors of the Blue Line Club was convened at 4:08 p.m. by Club President Kent Schwickert. The meeting was held on Tuesday, August 11, 1998 in the Alumni and Foundation Center conference room on the campus of Mankato State University.

Approval of Agenda

Vice President Henry Okleshen moved and Director Larry Ward seconded that the meeting agenda for August 11, 1998 be approved. Motion carried.

Minutes of Previous Board Meeting Approved

Director Larry Ward moved and Director Jim Bullard seconded that the minutes of the Board's regular June 8, 1998, meeting be approved. Motion passed.

Secretary-Treasurer's Report - David Cowan

FY'99 Club Budget

The 1998-99 income and expenditure plan approved by the Board on June 8.

The spending plan totals $25,050, spread out among many objects of expenditure; income estimates total $25,050, of which the total sum is derived from a transfer from the estimated $180,000 to be raised from "Corporate" and "Individual" club membership fees for 1998-99. The Corporate Member rate continues at $1,200 annually with the Individual Member rate at $600.

Vice President Henry Okleshen moved and Director Larry Ward seconded that the Board adopt the financial report dated 7/16/98 as presented by Secretary-Treasurer David Cowan. Motion passed.

Update on Membership and Ticket Sales

Cheryl Regan reported that to date 108 corporate memberships had been sold and 107 individual memberships. Sold season ticket seats moved to 1,545 up from 1,419 of last season.

Calendar Approved as the "Distinctive" Memento for Club Members

The Board agreed to proceed and publish a high gloss commemorative wall calendar with a full color picture of the 1998-99 hockey team, action shots from the 1997-98 season, members, notes of interest involving the Blue Line Club, the MSU men's hockey program, Club web site, etc.

The calendar portion of the publication which has each day of the week, would list home and away hockey events, game times, places, Friday noon luncheon Club meetings with visiting coaches, etc. 18 months of season events would be listed. No advertising would be allowed within the publication.

Blue Line Club members who have printed such publications would be contacted. Those Club members include Corporate Graphics, MGA Graphics, Promotions Work, and Allegra Print and Imaging.

Blue Line Club Golf Outing Scheduled - Scholarship Endowment Effort

As a member of the Scholarship Endowment Committee, Kent Schwickert reported on the upcoming Monday, September 21 special "Dan Meyer" Blue Line Club Memorial Scholarship Endowment Golf Outing. The event will be held at the Mankato Golf Club with probably a maximum of 144 golfers each paying $120. The $120 is for green fees lunch, dinner and prizes and the golfing format is a "Shamble." All net proceeds are dedicated to the memorial fund and it is anticipate as much as $10,000 could be raised yet this September. Cellular 2000 and Midwest Wireless are co-sponsors of the event and may be able to commit $5,000 for each of 3 years as a donation. Doug Woog has been invited to participate in the golf outing.

This event has nothing to do with the Sept. 19 annual Hockey Alumni golf outing out at Northlinks Golf Course.

Wrap-up Success of Promotions Work Apparel and Novelty Sales Effort

Men's Athletics Director Don Amiot reported that around $16,820 in sales had been achieved thanks to the good work of Promotions Work. Mankato State is to received 15% of that or around $3,300, an amount higher than the $2,500 original goal.
