Blue Line Social Committee

Kent Schwickert reported that he had worked with John Stoffle, Maverick Boosters Club President, creating a schedule of home weekend series luncheons where members of either the Blue Line or Maveric Boosters clubs could attend and listen to the visiting team coach and the MSU coach.

Membership and Seaton Ticket Sales Committee

Jim Bullard reported that between him and Steve Duea most, if not all, of the wearing apparel "favors" purchased for Blue Line Club members had been distributed. Bullard maintained that significant postage cost savings and good will were generated by the personally delivering the favors. This is the fifth year favors have been given to Blue Line Club members.

  • Year #1 - Crystal for Chareter Club Members & BLC Caps (Board was formally organized on 2/20/96 with adoption of bylaws.)
  • Year #2 - BLC sweatshirt or $35 clothing credit against a full range of other BLC embroidered wearing apparel items. (Two sweatshirts for Corporate Members; one for Individual Member)
  • Year #3 Commemorative pen with Mankato State Hockey 1st Div.I Season '97-'98 engraved on each. (Two for Corporate Members; one for Individual Members)
  • Year #4 - Men's/Women's Hockey Away/Home 18 Month Calendar. (Two for Corporate Members, one for Individual Members)
  • Year #5 - Shirt and cap embroidered with Club's new logo and WCHA symbol. (Two for Corporate Members; one for Individual Members)

Newsletter

Board members discussed Don Brose's recommendation for the creation of a mult-page newsletter that could be mailed to Blue Line Club members at least on a monthly basis. The Club's "Hat Trick" newsletter of the past was published on a "hit and miss" basis and was not much more than a flyer. Without objection, Schwickert appointed an special committee to study the matter and determine how an editorial board could be established which would be responsible for the routine writing and distribution of such a periodical.

Board members emphasized that both the men's hockey coach and the women's hockey coach should be prepared to provide articles which could be included in each issue of the periodical. Those appointed by Club President Schwickert o the special committee include: Amiot, Don Brose, and Kent Schwickert. Amiot is responsible for convening the special committee.

Club Funding of Commemorative Crystal of 1980 National Championship Team

Jim Bullard moved that the Board approve allocating Club funds to cover the cost of 30 special crystals which will be presented to members of the 1980 National Championship Team. Motion seconded. The cost of the project would probably run around $600 and the Club's carryforward surplus for 1998-99 would be tapped to cover the expense. Board members were concerned that the commitment for this expenditure was not presented to the Board in an orderly or timely fashion. Without objection, the Board agreed to table approval of the funds until such time as Steve Duea from Promotions 2000 could brief the Board on the circumstances surrounding the commitment.

Since the crystals had already been manufactured and needed to be formally presented, the Board agreed that Club Vice President Henry Okleshan and Director of Athletics Don Amiot would present a crystal to each honoree during the November 12 /13th home game series between the MSU Mavericks and the Denver Pioneers.

Adjournment

Without objection the meeting was adjourned at 4:46 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

David Cowan, Secretary-Treasurer - Hockey Blue Line Club
