Gophers extend MSU women's losing streak

MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota State women's hockey team lost its seventh consecutive game and was shut out for the third time in a row Saturday at Mariucci Arena.

This time, it was to No. 1-ranked Minnesota, 5-0.

The Gophers outshot the Mavericks 49-16 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association game.

Goaltender Brit Kehler kept the MSU in the game, allowing just two goals on 22 shots over the first 40 minutes.

Kehler's 44 saves was a career high.

But the Gophers put away three in the third, as Natalie Darwitz, Krissy Wendell and Anya Miller each scored.

Darwitz, the nation's leading scorer, also had two assists to improve her point total to 91.

The Mavericks (8-17-6, 7-15-3 in WCHA) and the Gophers (28-1-2, 23-0-2) meet again at 3:05 p.m. today at Ridder Arena
