Forewarning

This is a warning to you as a student-athlete of the risk you take while participating in intercollegiate athletics at Minnesota State University, Mankato. By participating in any sport at Minnesota State University, Mankato, you can sustain any one of the following injuries and others not included. This list is not conclusive as there are other injuries which can occur to you while participating in intercollegiate athletics at Minnesota State University, Mankato. This forewarning and list of injuries is given to you to make you aware of the inherent dangers and risks involved while participating in athletics.

1. Head injuries- can result in brain damage, coma, and/or death
2. Spinal injuries - can result in quadriplegia, paraplegia, and/or death
3. Fractures - partial or complete interruption of a bone's continuity
4. Strains - completely torn, partially, torn, and/or stretched muscles or muscle tendon
5. Sprains - completely torn, partially torn, and/or stretched ligaments
6. Contusions
7. Lacerations, abrasions, and other flesh wounds - can result in infection
8. Internal organ damage - such as rupture of a spleen or kidney
9. Loss of limb or vital organ of the body
10. Cartilage damage in the joints of the body

ATTENTION FOOTBALL and HOCKEY:
Mouthguards are a required part of your equipment. If any dental injury is sustained during practice or competition and you are not wearing a mouthguard our school Insurance will not cover any expenses incurred as a result of the injury.

There are other injuries/illness that are not included in this list. This forewarning is to make you aware of the seriousness of possible injuries that can occur to you while participating in Intercollegiate Athletics at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
