Mission
Recognizing that the ultimate responsibility for success lies with you, the student, Student Support Services promotes self-advocacy and leadership. The mission of SSS is to provide you with academic, cultural, career-oriented, and social activities to enhance your college experience. These program activities are designed to help you continue your education and achieve academic success.
Population
Student Support Services provides services to one hundred seventy-five students who are accepted or enrolled in an education program at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Participants are identified and selected from one or more of the following: Economic status, first generation college students (neither parent has a baccalaureate degree), or individuals with disabilities.
Objectives
- Identify and select students to participate in the project annually.
- Assess students for academic, personal, accessibility and cultural needs and an individualized academic plan developed for each.
- Assist participants in completing the necessary paperwork to insure financial aid adequate to meet their assessed need.
- Participants maintain satisfactory academic progress as measured by the University.
- Retain and/or graduate participants from their educational program or transfer to another institution.
Services
- Provide assistance to students in the areas of counseling and guidance, instruction, services to students with disabilities and cultural activities. The cornerstone of Student Support Services is guidance and counseling. Counseling includes: academic, personal and social services.
- Host special workshops, sponsor cultural activities and speakers and provides opportunities for students to participate in cultural and recreational events.
- Help students with disabilities function independently in an educational setting.
- Offer tutoring and skill builders both on an individual and/or group basis.
