Exemplary Publications

As you read these standards, you may wish to refer to some sample publications, including a viewbook, brochure, poster, flyer, job posting and newsletter.

If you would like to produce any of these or other types of publications, please contact the Graphics Team (graphics@mnsu.edu) in Printing & Photocopying Services at 507-389-1181. The team can design and produce publications for you or support you in your own production.

Covers, Front Pages and Posters

If your publication is being run in color, the cover, front page or poster should preferably contain both the University's purple and gold, but must at least contain our purple.

The University's full logo should preferably appear somewhere on the cover, front page or poster, but if space does not permit, then use only the University's full name.

If only the University's full name is used, it should appear somewhere on the
Cover, Front Page and Poster, in addition to citing the name as part of the required statements (see below).

If only the University's name is used on the cover of a publication with more than one side or page, the full University logo must be used on the back cover or back side.

If you would like to develop a poster template, please contact the Graphics Team (graphics@mnsu.edu) in Printing & Photocopying Services at 507-389-1181.

Copy

Wherever appropriate, the University theme of "beyond possibility," as captured by the University's vision, should be incorporated into copy. This theme captures how students often redefine what they thought was possible after enrolling at Minnesota State Mankato.

Text for publications should preferably be set in the Futura font. If that is unavailable, use Arial or a similar san serif font.

All publications copy should follow the Associated Press Style Guide, available at the on-campus Barnes and Noble Bookstore.

Photographs

Photographs can be downloaded from the University's Image Library for use in publications. Clients should look there first for images, but if they use photos from other sources, they should reflect the guideline below.

Photographs should not look posed, showing our campus and its people as they would look to a visitor, without people mugging for the camera or other contrived-looking scenes.

If you need additional sources of photos, contact Integrated Marketing at 507-389-6981 or ann.rosenquist-fee@mnsu.edu.

The use of clip art in University publications is not advised. Market research shows that images of our campus and its people are more persuasive and desirable to our target audience. Therefore, images from the University's Image Library should be used instead, with stock photos chosen by University graphic designers through stock photo subscription services as the second choice.
