Program Requirements

All exchange students must be accepted to the College of Science and Technology (Computer Science students) or the College of Business. All students must be in good academic and disciplinary standing, with a minimum GPA of 2.5. MSU students must enroll in at least 12 credits while in Sweden.

Language/Culture Requirements

MSU students taking part in the Business and Computer Science exchanges are required to take one language/culture course. This course may be taken at any level. The International Center recommends each MSU Exchange student to learn some things about the host country's language and culture. Students in Sweden will find that most Swedes speak English and are happy to accommodate you.

City/University Information

Borås is a town of 62,000 people in Southwestern Sweden, near the city of Gothenburg. Historically known as a textile city, Borås now houses a major office of the Swedish wireless firm Ericsson.

The University College of Borås (UCB) was established in 1977 and currently has 11,000 students. Boras Student Handbook is full of good information about the school, the city and the country of Sweden.

Academic Calendar

The academic year at the University College of Borås is divided into semesters similar to MSU. The Fall Semester lasts from the end of August into early January. The Spring Semester lasts from the middle of January until the beginning of June.

Accommodation

Students in Borås reside in furnished rooms, either in a residence hall or student flat. The bathrooms and kitchen facilities are shared. For more information on accommodation please see UCB's accommodation page.

Visa/Residency Requirements

MSU students attending UCB will need a Residence Permit. For more information on how to obtain a residence permit for students, please visit this site.

Insurance

When you come to Borås as an exchange student you are automatically covered by UCB's 24-hour personal insurance, called the "Swedish State's Insurance for Foreign Students in Sweden. This insurance will cover acute medical treatment if you are injured or ill.
