The Bulletin provides a complete list of course offerings in all departments, descriptions of academic policies and scholastic standards, information about financial aid, scholarships, employment, housing, and campus activities. Save your copy of the Bulletin when you begin your coursework at Minnesota State Mankato, which is good for seven years, and is the course listing of the requirements for degrees the year you entered Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Graduation – Applying for

Undergraduates

In order to graduate (different from participating in Commencement), students must apply for their degree. In order to allow for sufficient time to evaluate an application for graduation, undergraduate students should apply no later than one calendar year prior to the expected graduation term. Further, Applications for Graduations are due absolutely no later than two weeks (14 calendar days) prior to the last day of a given term. Applications received after the deadline will not be evaluated for that term and will be moved to the next term.

Undergraduate students should contact the Office of the Registrar, WA 132, at 389-6266 when applying for graduation.

Graduate Students

Students may apply to graduate during the semester of their intended graduation.

Graduate students should contact the Office of Graduate Studies, 115 AF, at 389-2321 when applying for graduation.

Commencement

Students must register in advance to participate in the Commencement Ceremony. For further information regarding registration and details for the ceremony, please visit www.mnsu.edu/graduation.

Difference Between Dropping Classes and Withdrawal

Students "withdrawing" from the University are dropping all of their classes for the current semester. They will still be able to register in a subsequent semester. Students "dropping classes" still have at least one course. The deadline for dropping classes is earlier than the deadline for official withdrawal. The withdrawal refund percentages do not apply when dropping classes. Please refer to the "Dates" link on the Office of the Registrar's home page at www.mnsu.edu/registrar to check the timeline for dropping classes.

Drop/Add Or Registration Changes

What should you do if you want to change a course or want to change the grading method? What if you decide to take an additional course? What if you wish to choose a different section of a course? Visit the web based registration system located at www.mnsu.edu/msureg.  These changes, if made by the fifth day of classes in the term, will cost you nothing.  Go to http://www.mnsu.edu/registrar  to check for calendar information under "Dates."link.  You can check which courses are being offered by selecting Class Schedule on the Minnesota State Mankato homepage or by selecting Course Offerings on the Registrar's "Registration" link. Students DO NOT need to sign-in to E-Services to view what courses are offered.

Dropping A Class

Be sure to officially drop a class through E-Services, otherwise it will appear on your record. As it states in the Bulletin, "Any course not officially dropped will be subject to University scholastic standards," and you will receive an "F" if you do not follow the regulations. Each class dropped after the fifth class day will result in a grade of "W" which will appear on your transcript. To drop all of your classes, which is considered an official withdrawal, contact the Campus Hub, 507-389-1866, for more information.

Improving Grades

You can make the system work for you by attending and preparing for classes, asking questions, and, if necessary, getting help from tutors. Worry and emotional problems can destroy your ability to concentrate. Help is available at the Counseling Center, 507-389-1455. Looking to improve you studying or taking tests skills? Call the Center for Academic Success, 507-389-1791.

Registration

To register,  use the web based registration system, located at https://www.mnsu.edu/msureg. To look for classes being offered before you register select the "Class Schedule" link on the Minnesota State Mankato homepage under "Current Students."

Internet

Using any Internet browser, type in www.mnsu.edu/msureg. You must use your "TECH ID" printed on your MavCard.   Be sure to select the correct term and press the "Submit" button.  You will need to use your PIN (Personal Identification Number).  Please be aware that both numbers are confidential and access to them by unathorized persons could result in unwanted changes to your schedule.  To ensure accuracy, it is a good idea to print your entire schedule when you complete your transactions.  For questions regarding registration, contact the Registrations Help Center at registration@mnsu.edu or by calling 507-389-2252.

Electronic Class Schedule

You can access the electronic class schedule by going to the Registrar's Office Web site at http://www.mnsu.edu/registrar  and choosing "Course Offerings" under "Registration." There is a search mechanism that can help you narrow your search.  Also check out the class schedule listed on the Minnesota State University, Mankato homepage under "Current Students."  You do not need a tech id or pin to access this class schedule.

After you register, it is a good idea to print your schedule to determine if you have registered for all of your courses.  You can also obtain a printed copy of your class schedule at the Campus Hub or at the Registration Help Center in WA 132.

Credit Overload

Any enrolled credits over 18 must have overload permission. Overload forms may be printed from the Registrar's homepage (click on "Forms" and select "Undergraduate Credit Overload"). Completed forms must be taken to your advisor. Depending upon the number of credits, other officials will also need to complete and sign the form.  You then return the form to your Student Relations Coordinator.

Registration Changes

What if you want to change a course, change the grading method, add or drop a course, or choose a different section? You can make changes on the Internet at http://mnsu.edu/msureg. Deadlines can be found at the Registrar's  Web site at http://msu.edu/registrar, under "Registration."  You should check your schedule after every change to verify the intended change. A "W" is posted in the grade section for classes dropped after the refund date. If you list your schedule, the dropped class may still be listed, but if you list grades for the term, it will say that the course was withdrawn. (Note: Dropping a class does not always drop financial charges for the class.) For more information on registration, check the Bulletin, or the Registrar's Web site at http://www.mnsu.edu/registrar(Note: Grades of "W" will count towards the percentage of completion in regards to financial aid satisfactory progress completion and for determining academic probation.)

General Instructions

When registering by Internet, read the response carefully to determine success. If not successful, the reason will be listed. Problems with registration may occasionally occur.  Any transaction you have completed before you are disconnected from the website will remain a part of your enrollment until you change it. If you are unable to register because a "hold" has been placed on your record, you must clear the hold at the appropriate office. Consult "Registration" on the Registrar's Office Web site at http://www.mnsu.edu/registrar  for offices that release holds. You will need to consult with your advisor if you need a credit overload beyond 18 credits. If granted, you must complete the registration yourself. If the course requires special permission, you must contact the instructor of the course for electronic permission.  Once an instructor has coded your permission, you must register for the class. It is very important to note the instructor does not enroll you in the class; you must use E-Services and register yourself.

Repeated Courses

Students may take a course up to three times.  THe University will use the grade of the last course and this course will be the only course that will earn credits to be included in the GPA calcualtion.  All courses attempted and grades earned will appear on the transcript.  Even though transfer credits may be repeated, they do not count in the three times a course can be taken.  Repeated courses will be used to calculate percentage of completion for financial aid satisfactory progress completion and in determining academic probation.

Students must file a "Repeated Course" form at the Office of the Registrar, WA 132, upon completion of the repeated course to initate the change to the transcript.  For further information, call the Office of the Registrar, 507-389-6266.  This form is also available at the Registrar's OIffice Web site at http://www.mnsu.edu/registrar.

Financial Aid Transcripts

Financial aid transcripts must be reguested in person at the Campus Hub SU 117.
