Admission

All applicants should submit the following to the College of Graduate Studies and Research: a completed Application for Graduate Study, a verification of the baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university, two official transcripts listing undergraduate/graduate degree(s) to be sent directly from the degree-granting institution to the College of Graduate Studies and Research (including MSU students, undergraduates, faculty and staff), and any additional information required for international students, if appropriate. The GRE is not required. Upon receipt of these materials, the College of Graduate Studies and Research will forward the applicant's file to the Department of Theatre and Dance for admission recommendation. Admissions are made for the fall term and all application materials must be received by the University's deadlines.

Successful applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the last two years of undergraduate study and a demonstrated ability in performance or production. Applicants must have an undergraduate major in, or related to, theatre arts or the professional equivalent. Also required are a vita and a portfolio. Acting applicants for the M.F.A must submit a video audition tape. Likely candidates will be invited for a personal audition or interview. Directing applicants in the M.F.A program need to submit a prompt book of the plays they have directed, photographs or tapes of the plays directed or acted in, and appropriate assessments of directing abilities. They must also submit an acting audition tape. Design and Technical production applicants for the M.F.A need to submit renderings, working drawings, photographs or slides of completed works.
