McElroy Residence CommunityMinnesota State University, Mankato's McElroy Residence Community was completed in 1961, and was the second residence hall on the upper campus of the then Mankato State College. The center takes its name from Frank D. McElroy, sixth president of the institution. The commons area linking the McElroy and Crawford Center was named in 1990 for Chester (Chet) A. Carkoski, assistant dean of students and director of housing from 1960 to 1973.

Located on the north side of campus, McElroy is the home to nearly 800 residents in E, F, G, and H Halls. Both renovated and basic room types are offered in McElroy in addition to the only coed traditional residence hall, McElroy G Hall. Many of the Learning Communities offered at Minnesota State Mankato are housed in the McElroy Residence Community.
