Minnesota State University, Mankato's Centennial Student
Union, constructed and operated on student funding through activity
fees, opened in September of 1967. Its convention- size ballroom
was initiated with the internationally-famous Stan Kenton orchestra
at the 1967 Homecoming. The building was named as an attempt to
perpetuate the historical fact of the institution's centennial
celebration. The second stage was completed in 1972. The three-level
complex houses a main cafeteria, delicatessen, bookstore, auditorium,
ballroom, a gameroom and bowling alley, the Women's Center, the
International Student Office, the Reporter office, and various
offices and conference rooms.
