During the 2010-11 academic year, the Undergraduate Research Center:
- Offered fall and summer funding to support undergraduate research.
- Provided funding for 22 students to present at the NCUR meeting, Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY.
- Provided funding for approximatelly 40 students to present at discipline specific regional and national meetings.
- Hosted a campus-wide faculty workshop: How to be a Mentor. 30 faculty members representing 6 colleges participated.
- Evaluated and expanded existing library holdings related to ethical considerations in undergraduate research.
- Established the UR Council, consisting of faculty members from every college and students from the MSU Student Senate.
- Awarded the FIRST annual Best Undergraduate Research Mentor to Dr. Penny Knoblich, Dept of Biological Sciences
Key Events:
- The 2011 Undergraduate Research Conference: 230 students from 6 colleges participated. There were 148 student presentations and 78 faculty mentors.
- The 2011 National Council of Undergraduate Research Meeting (NCUR): 15 student groups presented their research: Jose Barriga, Lauren Beal, Anita Becker, Daniel Branscombe, Samantha Buss and RaeAnn Kragenbring, Andrew Flick, Susan Gerbensky and Crystal Taylor, Kokouvi Ketika, Brian McMahan, Camille McNabb and Samantha Tupy, Inge Milius, Adedayo Ologunde, Yusuf Opakunkle, Mark Origer and Kristopher Roppe, and Ashley Veldkamp and Steven Muir. - 2011 Council of Undergraduate Research Posters on the Hill. Crystal Taylor and Susan Gerbensky presented their research at the prestigious Posters on the Hill in Washington DC.
