It might be hard to imagine adding another responsibility to a faculty member’s already full plate. However, participation in undergraduate research is a transforming experience for both the faculty mentor and the student. In addition, it may be one of the best ways to integrate our University’s criteria for evaluation of faculty.

Mentoring an undergraduate research assistant is powerful evidence of the ability to teach effectively. It demonstrates the pursuit of scholarly or creative achievement or research. It demands continuing preparation and study. Faculty mentoring contributes to student growth and development, and it also provides service to the University and the community.
