By January 1, 2014, students should contact their House and Senate member and arrange an appointment for a visit. This visit should be done between 9:00am and 10:00 am to present them with a copy of the abstract booklet and personally invite them to your poster. 

It is important the you write your home district state representatives (House and Senate members) and invite them to Minnesota Scholars at St. Paul as soon as possible. Below is a sample letter which can be personalized. Please remember to change the information to reflect your information. You may print the letter on personal stationary or Minnesota State University, Mankato letter head. To identify your home district legislators and locate mail addresses can be found at

Schedule for the Day

7:00am: Departure from MSU Mankato
9:00-10:00am: Student/faculty meetings with legislators (arranged by students)
10:00am-11:00am: Set-up easels and posters in the rotunda
11:00am-1:00pm: MN Undergraduate Scholars at St. Paul Poster Session
1:00-2:00pm: Lunch
2:00pm: Departure 

Poster Session

Posters will be displayed from 11am to 1pm in the Capitol Rotunda. Your poster will need to be mounted on the designated easel by 10:45am and you will need to remain with your poster until 1pm.

Dress, Personal Items, & Photography

Please dress professionally. No jeans, tennis shoes, or baseball caps.
Please do not bring backpacks or other belongings in to the Capitol.
You are welcome to bring your own camera. If during the poster session your legislator comes by, ask if you may have your picture taken with him or her.


Please join us for lunch immediately following the poster session. Remember to invite your mentors and advisors to attend. 

Directions and Parking

The Capitol complex is to the north of I-94 just minutes from downtown St. Paul. It is accessible from the east and west on I-94, and from the north and south on I-35E.

Students should park in either Lot F or Lot AA. Parking can be paid for by coins, cash, or credit cards. Students just need to note their parking stall number and pay at the pay box. These lots should be $1.50 per hour.

  • I-94 eastbound: Exit at Marion Street. Turn left. Go to Aurora Avenue and turn right. Go one block and enter Parking Lot AA.
  • I-94 westbound: Exit at Marion Street. Turn right. Go to Aurora Avenue and turn right. Go one block and enter Parking Lot AA.
  • I-35E northbound: Exit at Kellogg Boulevard. Turn left. Go to John Ireland Boulevard and turn right. Metered parking spaces line both sides of the boulevard.
  • I-35E southbound: Exit at University Avenue. Turn right. Go to Rice Street and turn left. Go one block, turn right and enter Parking Lot AA.

Another option is to park on Aurora Ave, which is just south of Lot AA. This is city metered parking. The new parking meters should take coins or credit cards. This parking should be $1.00 per hour.
