Women Who Rock

Dr. Julie Kerr-Berry

"Dr. Julie Kerr-Berry is my Advanced Modern Dance and Dance History professor. However, I have learned so much more from her than simply dance steps and historic dates. She has taught me exactly what a strong, self-assured, civic-minded woman is. She is constantly pushing her students to think "outside the box," especially when it comes to race, gender and sexuality. She urges all of us to become more active in our worlds, in any way possible. She has devoted her life to studying other people, cultures, music, and movement and then exposing her students to them. She is a wonderful teacher, great role model, source of inspiration, and truly a woman who rocks."

Do you know a woman who rocks? If you know of someone you'd like to recognize, email heather.gay@mnsu.edu and we'll recognize them in the weekly Women's Center newsletter and online on the Women's Center website.

A Woman's Guide to Mankato

Greetings! We are a group of students enrolled in the Women's Studies Collective Action graduate course. As a group we are to identify a project, plan it, and implement it. We have chosen to put together a women's directory for the greater Mankato area, modeled from the Women's Press resource guide. We want to encourage others to make conscious decisions about where they are spending their money by providing this directory as a resource for people to seek out woman-owned businesses and services. This directory will provide helpful and useful information and make connections within the women's business community in the Mankato area.

If you are a woman who owns and/or operates a business, and would like to be included in our directory, please send an email to jennifer.macken@mnsu.edu as soon as possible. A listing in the directory is absolutely free of charge and on a voluntary basis. We will distribute the directory throughout the community at participating businesses and on campus at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Submissions will be accepted until November 17, 2004.

Thank you so much!
