Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price Set To Debut in Mankato

Who: Students, professors, activists, etc.

What: Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price screening and conversation

Where: Minnesota State University, 284 Centennial Student Union, Mankato

When: Wednesday, November 16, 2005, 11:30-1:30 p.m.

The film takes the viewer on a deeply personal journey into the every day lives of families struggling to fight against a goliath. From a small business owner in the Missouri to a preacher in California, from workers in Florida to a poet in Mexico, dozens of film crews on three continents bring the story of an assault of families and American values. Current and former employees, managers and executives will tell all about the corporation's inner-workings. Wal-Mart is based on individual human beings, all over the world, at all levels of society, telling their story in very personal terms.

Native Nations Conference

When: November 17-18, 2005

Where: Centennial Student Unions with exception of the evening presentation on November 17 in Wissink Center

The Primary Goal of the Native Nations Conference is to build and strengthen awareness and student leadership. It is also to provide an opportunity for academic scholars, students, professionals and community members to discuss the issues that affect the Native American communities.

The conference is open for MSU faculty, staff and students in three ways:

  • Individuals can simply register for the conference. The cost is $45.00 for students and $75.00 for non-students. I would ask that you register for the conference if you plan to attend the majority of the presentations, receptions, and meals.
  • Individuals/classes may attend an individual session at no cost with exception to lunch which will cost $5.00 for students, $10.00 for non-students, and free to all registered participants of the conference;
  • Individuals can take the conference for 1 academic credit which will require paying for tuition PLUS paying the $45.00 registration fee for the conference. If a student wishes to take it for credit it will require attending all sessions of the conference and writing a 1-1 1/2 page reaction summary to each session.

If you have any questions please contact Jennifer Simon, jennifer.simon@mnsu.edu, or 507-389-6300.
