Volunteers needed to staff tornado cleanup shifts this weekend (September 2-3) in Le Sueur County.
Volunteers 16 years old or older can register for one of four shifts for removing debris from farm fields. The shifts are 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. To register for the cleanup, call the volunteer hotline at 507-357-8211 between 8am and 4:30 p.m. The line has been busy, so it may take several tries to get through.
Volunteers must wear pants, long-sleeve shirts and sturdy shoes, as most of the debris is sharp. The Salvation Army will provide meals. For more information, visit the Le Sueur County website.

There is much discussion in the media about the potential risk of an avian flu pandemic (bird flu). While this is a new disease, flu-type infections are not new and there is much we can do to prevent them. Many college students live in shared housing where they are exposed to the germs of many people and students are exposed daily to classmates who are sick. The best tools we have against the flu and colds are prevention measures. Below are some recommendations to prevent getting sick this semester.
Student Health Services is available to you Monday -Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. We are located in the lower level of Carkoski Commons (below the cafeteria). Visit the SHS website for self-care information.
One final suggestion to prevent spreading germs to others: Cover all coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your upper sleeve, not your hands.
