Poker Walk

  • Time to get up and get moving on your lunch break! Come be active and join the MSU Wellness Committee for an exhilarating walk around campus! Begin your walk with one card at the Fountain and continue through campus making designated stops to fill your poker hand! Top 3 hands will win a prize courtesy of the MSU Wellness Committee!

Lead the Pack Lifestyle Challenge

  • Lead the Pack is back!! Please join Kirsten, an Exercise Physiology graduate student, and Heathera Family Consumer Science-Food & Nutrition major, as they guide you through six weeks of health and wellness education along with goal setting and encouragement. Each week there will be a new topic introduced. Some topics that will be covered are lifestyle activities, nutritional counseling and at-home workouts. Prizes will be given out at each event!!
  • Questions are encouraged!
  • This program is FREE and lasts six weeks.
  • There will be an optional weight and BMI assessments conducted to help you stay on track. The program begins Monday October 10th and endsFriday November 18th.
  • Program Dates/Times: Days will vary (Monday, Tuesday, or Thursdays), all times will be 12pm-12:40pm.
  • More details and locations are forthcoming.

Break to Brush

  • Who: All faculty and staff invited to attend!
  • What: “Oral Cancer" presented by Dr. Christina Simonette of the St. Peter Family Dental Center
  • When: Thursday, November 10th from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
  • Where: Centennial Student Union, Room 285
  • This presentation will feature Dr. Christina Simonette of the St. Peter Family Dental Center.  Christina's "Hot Topic" will be "Oral Cancer” Dr. Simonette received her dental degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska and her bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota - Duluth. Join Dr. Simonette as she breaks down your questions about Oral Cancer, will also cover the importance of oral cancer screenings and making sure that your overall oral health is in good condition. Dr. Simonette will also take time to answer your questions and have toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, etc. to hand out to attendees.

Yoga

  • Mondays & Wednesdays at 12 Noon for 50 minutes of reinvigorating yoga.
  • Starts August 29th throughout fall semester in PH 102.  
  • Focus will be on building strength, balance and an awareness of how this ancient practice can enhance your life. 
  • $2 a class
  • Join Registered Yoga Teacher Kelly Holland on Wednesdays and Lisa Johnson on Mondays. 
  • Kelly is registered at the 200 hour level with Yoga Alliance.  She has taught all levels of yoga in Southern MN for over 13 years to students ranging in age from 2 to 92. If you have any questions about the upcoming classes please call Kelly at 507-304-0974.
  • Lisa is a registered yoga instructor for four years and also teaches at the YMCA.  If you have any questions about the Monday classes, please call Diane in Human Resources at 2016.

Spring Forest Qigong

  • Wednesdays during the Month of November

  • Qigong (pronounced che-gong), means “energy work.”  Qigong is an ancient method of healing that has been practiced in China for thousands of years. This ancient mode of learning to move your own energy can quiet the mind and bring calmness into the body. Practicing qigong empowers individuals to bring healing into their own body and can be an effective method for helping you experience your optimal health, wellness, and happiness.
  • Qigong can help in the following ways:
    • for relief from pain, sickness, disease or injury
    • for relief from stress, anxiety, depression
    • for balance in your life
    • for abundant energy
  • Lois Weber, former Minnesota State Mankato employee, has been practicing and studying Spring Forest Qigong for almost 11 years.   She is a certified Spring Forest Qigong Instructor and Master Healer.

Getting Your Ducks in a Row as You Age

  • Presenters: Mary Wichtendahl & Mary O'Sullivan from Vine Faith in Action
  • Discussion of:
    • Identify home services and home modifications that can provide more safety and comfort in the home.
    • Discuss the challenges faced by older drivers.
    • Explore the living options available in the Mankato area.
    • Learn what questions to ask when making a change in living arrangements.
    • Review some of the important legal issues for older adults.
