Eat for the Health of It Challenge

  • Register to participate at StayWell between March 3 and March 21.
  • Participants will get tools and learn skills to make healthy food choices to reduce risks for developing diseases like diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis and some cancers.
  • The Challenge runs from March 17 to April 27.

Spring into Action! March 17th - May 4th

  • This program, put on by the Employee Wellness Committee, gives employees a chance to win wellness items for participating in wellness events!
  • For each attended wellness event you will have your name put in a weekly drawing for a chance to win wellness items. You do not need to be present to win.
  • At the end of the program there will be a final drawing with your name in for as many wellness events you attended throughout the program to win the BIG item! The final drawing will be held at the sprint triathlon on May 4th.You must be present to win.

  • Friday - March 21: NEW! FREE! Shape-up Fitness class. Led by wellness committee interns and a portion of the class devoted to nutrition. 12-1pm PH 102

A Brown-Bag Series on Caregiving for New and Experienced Elder Caregivers

Session 1: February 4 from 12-1 PM, “Resources on Caregiving and for Caregivers”

Session 2: February 11 from 12-1 PM, “Entering the Caregiving Role”

  • In this session, Don Ebel, the Director of the Chesley Center on Aging and the Aging Studies Program will present important information for new or first time caregivers to help try to establish healthy caregiving practices early in the caregiving relationship. Dr. Ebel will be joined by a caregiving support group leader from the community.

Session 3: February 18 from 12-1 PM, “On Being a Caregiving”

  • In this session, two caregivers of spouses experiencing dementia will share their stories on how to move through the caregiver journey in a way that supports the health and wellbeing of the caregiver. These seasoned caregivers have practical and applicable advice for caregivers in any stage of their caregiving relationship.

Session 4: February 25 from 12-1 PM, “Ending the Caregiving Relationship”

  • All caregiving relationships end at some point, and navigating how and when it reaches its conclusion can be a difficult experience. In this session, advice is shared by seasoned professionals in both long-term care admissions and hospice care. The discussion will support caregivers who are concerned with how to gracefully move through this transition to find their footing in a way that honors themselves and the person for whom they are providing care.

  • Why:  to learn more about how to set achievable goals for the health, career or for your everyday life

Tai Chi with Han-Way Huang

  • When:  Monday and Wednesdays, beginning January 13 - May 7, 2014
  • Where:  Bresnan’s concourse area
  • When:  Noon – 1 pm
  • Why:  try a gentle exercise consisting of graceful flowing movements.  It lowers blood pressure, reduces stress, improves balance, flexibility, strength, stamina, and cardiovascular fitness.


  • When: Starting January 22, 2014 - Wednesday - March 3, 3014. This Class will be on Mondays and Wednesdays this semester

  • Why:  Fun, Easy Latin Dance makes exercise fun again.

Nutritional Counseling

  • Two of our dietetic student interns are excited to offer their time to analyze your diet for no cost! After analysis you can find out what in your diet you are getting too little of, too much of, or are missing alltogether!
  • How:
    • Contact dietetic intern (;
    • Keep a 3-day journal of your diet;
    • Email 3 day journal to the dietetic intern;
    • Then, request a meeting time for you and the dietetic intern to go over your diet or just request the analysis of your diet to be emailed to you.
