Bike-to-Work Week 2012: May 14-18, 2012

Laughter Yoga

  • Tuesday, April 24, 2012
  • 2 Sessions - 11:30-12:30pm, 12:30-1:30pm
  • CSU253-255
  • Come experience a new way to enjoy laughter. All it takes is coming to this presentation and wanting to have some fun! The yoga part is just some breathing techniques- so no prior knowledge of yoga is required. Laughter has been proven to boost the immune system, lower stress hormones, and trigger the release of endorphins. Other benefits of laughter are the release of natural painkillers, helps control high blood pressure and you will hopefully leave the session feeling good!

Massage

  • April 19, 2012
  • 9am - 3pm

  • Cost: $10 for a 15 minute massage
  • To sign up for an appointment, please contact Nicole Olson at nicole.olson@mnsu.edu.
  • First come, first serve, so sign up ASAP! Please email your availability for the day.
  • After scheduling appointment, you will need to pre-pay at Human Resources by April 17th, 2012 4 PM.

Six Week Physical Activity Challenge

  • This program is FREE and lasts six weeks.  
  • The program begins Tuesday, March 13, 2012 and ends Wednesday April 18, 2012.
  • Please join Kirsten, an Exercise Physiology graduate student, Heather a Family Consumer Science-Food & Nutrition major, and Nicole a Health Science major, as they guide you through six weeks of health and wellness education and physical activity along with goal setting and encouragement.  Each week there will be an exercise session to participate in.  Attendance Prizes will be given out at each event!!  Questions are encouraged!
  • Beginners are welcome! 
  • Find a workout buddy to help keep you motivated but not necessary. 
  • Exercises will be altered to each individual’s ability.
  • Program Dates/Times: We will be having Tuesday and Wednesday sessions. Exercise sessions will be every Tuesday 12-12:30 PM in the Meyers Field House and Wednesdays from 4:45 to 5:30 PM in room PH 114.
  • We will help you track your exercise and stay on track along with bonus incentives for attending Yoga and Zumba classes!
  • Come dressed for activity!

Minnesota State Mankato Night at Mount Kato (Cancelled)

  • Skiing and Snowboarding runs from 4:00 - 10:00 PM
  • Tubing runs from 5:00 - 9:00 PM
  • All registrants check in at the MSU table between 4:00 - 6:00 PM
  • Join us for some winter fun on the slopes of Mount Kato! Skiing, snowboarding, tubing - Mount Kato has it all. If you need ski or snowboard lesson, they have that too!
    • Lift Ticket: $17
    • Ski/Snowboard Rental: $16
    • Helmet Rental: $4
    • Ski/Snowboard Lessons (at 4:30 and 6:00 PM): $3
    • Tubing: 2 hours for $14 or 3 hours for $16

Begin your walk at Barnes and Noble Bookstore and continue through campus making designated stops to fill your poker hand! Top 3 hands will win a prize courtesy of the MSU Wellness Committee!

Bizically Fit 2012 Health Challenge sponsored by Alliance Health

Let’s kick off 2012 with some healthy competition!

Together, teams of coworkers, friends and family will earn points for healthy behaviors like dropping extra pounds, physical activity and healthy eating choices.

How It Works:

  • Individuals sign up and then create or join a team
  • Team members individually track their exercise minutes, pedometer steps, and/or weight loss at 2012HealthChallenge.com each week
  • Competitors follow the online Leaderboard for rankings and bragging rights
  • Virtual trophies are awarded to top scoring teams

Yoga

  • Mondays & Wednesdays at 12 Noon for 50 minutes of reinvigorating yoga.
  • Starts January 9th throughout Spring Semester in PH 102.  
  • Focus will be on building strength, balance and an awareness of how this ancient practice can enhance your life. 
  • $3 a class or a $25 punch card is available for 10 sessions.
  • Lisa is a registered yoga instructor for four years and also teaches at the YMCA.

Zumba

  • Classes Start: Tuesday, January 9, 2012
  • Class On: Monday and Thursdays in HN225
  • 5-6pm
  • Cost for 1 class per week for 6 weeks: $3
  • Cost for 2 classes per week for 6 weeks: $6
