Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Theatre and Dance News Release

MANKATO – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Department of Theatre & Dance continues the theatre season with “Something Rotten!” April 6-16 in the Ted Paul Theatre.

Set in London in 1595, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as “The Bard.” When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world's very first musical. But amidst the scandalous excitement of opening night, the Bottom brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self, and all that jazz.

This production is directed by Andreas guest artist and emeritus Paul J. Hustoles. The production includes a celebration of his 35-year career, as Hustoles retired in the summer of 2020, and according to the Department of Theatre and Dance, didn’t receive the flashy public send-off he deserves! This hilarious musical will be an exciting celebration of his legacy on campus and in the Department of Theatre and Dance. This production also features the work of two professional guest choreographers as well as two student choreographers and nonstop dancing fun.

“Something Rotten!” runs April 6-8 and 13-15 at 7:30 p.m. and April 15 & 16, at 2 p.m. in the Ted Paul Theatre at the Earley Center for Performing Arts, Minnesota State University, Mankato.  This production is made possible by a generous sponsorship from Community Bank Mankato and Jones Law Office.

Tickets are $24 regular, $21 for seniors ages 65 and older, children under 16 and groups of 15 or more; and $5 for Minnesota State Mankato students. Season ticket packages are still available for purchase.

The Box Office is open 4-6 p.m. weekdays in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center, or buy single tickets online at MSUTheatre.com. The Box Office line is 507-389-6661.
