Hello Judith, I am currently studying Speech Language Pathology and found your piece to be very informative and interesting. I understand that stuttering is prevalent in the population of those with Down Syndrome, however I am curious as to whether the same factors apply as far as genetics, sex, etc. are concerned? In your experience have you found more female or male stutters with Down Syndrome? Also I am wondering if any prevention is given with parents in your area. Perhaps they are provided with information pertaining to what common speech and/or language disorders may coexist with Down Syndrome, so that they could have time to learn and prepare themselves with how to handle situations so that the "shame" does not set in? Again, I really enjoyed your writing and I think it is great that action is being taken to learn and help those with Down Syndrome deal with other problems that might affect their quality of life. Thanks again. Best, Emily
