Hello. I am a grad student at NYU. I am currently taking a fluency disorder class with Professor Lee Caggiano. I really enjoyed reading your article and found it to be really interesting. It was informative and I learned a lot. Before entering grad school, I was a special ed. teacher in a preschool in Bronx, NY for five years and had some experience with working with Down’s children. It was nice reading about your experiences with the different age groups of Down’s children who stuttered. Do you think that the younger children show less “shame of stuttering” because they do not have higher demands from their peers and the society compared to older down’s children? What percentage of Down’s children are bound to have persistent stuttering? In class, I was informed that the ratio for males to females to stutter is 3:1. Do you find that ratio to be the same within the Down’s children? Thank you so much for the informative article.
