Dear Ms. Eckardt, I am a first year graduate student at NYU in the Speech-Language Pathology program. I am currently taking a Fluency Disorders class where we learn about stuttering and associated therapies. So far in many classes we only barely cover how Down's Syndrome can affect the therapy we will administer to our clients. I was curious about something you wrote in your article about how this program hopes these children will stutter as children with normal childhood stuttering. What does the program do if these children do not recover and continue stuttering as people who stutter through out their lives do? Is there a augmented therapy or do you employ the same techniques as with children with fluency disorders who do not have any other developmental issues? I ask this because I have observed a lot of language therapy with children who have Down's Syndrome but not much speech or fluency therapy. Thank you so much! Caitlin Sullivan
