Hello, Downs children who stutter have several risk factors. These include reduced oral-motor coordination, language formulation/word finding difficulties, ear infections/allergies, and sensory integration issues. Because all of these exist, the treatment approach would be focused upon slowing rate of speeech, improving language formulation skills, and reducing excitement levels. Preventing the development of SHAME of stuttering is most important. Stuttering does persist for many but the goal is to be a good functional communicator with some stuttering in life. Thank you. Judith
