Hello, Downs Children are more likely to persist in their stuttering because of the many high risk factors. As far as a counseling technique, being a good listener is most important and I always tell parents "It's not your fault that your child stuttes." Yes, I do tell children "It's OK to have bumps in your speech. It will get better." Stuttering is a cycle disorder and it usually does get better unless a lot of SHAME and AVOIDANCE BEHAVIORS develop. Thank you. Judith
