I enjoyed reading your article and found the information informative and helpful. I have a friend who is the mother of a child with Down Syndrome and due to work conflicts, is not able to be involved with her daughter's therapy. Her daughter does not display signs of stuttering but is in speech therapy and it leads me to ask: Does a lack of family involvement, whether intentional or not, play a significant role in the emergence of shame and avoidance behaviors in a child with Down Syndrome who stutters? Does family involvement have an affect on the treatment outcome with a Down Syndrome child who stutters vs. a child without Down Syndrome who stutters?
