I loved this idea too. I was recently speaking with a friend who is a speech pathologist at an intermediate school (which includes grades 3-6). She told me that one of her students had been teased about attending speech therapy by one of the other students in his class. She had taken care of the problem by speaking with the bully (who was attending tutoring for math), and told him that math tutoring was absolutely no different than speech therapy. The grapefruit idea is such a great way for kids to understand that everybody is different, that we all have things we are slightly embarrassed about, and that we shouldn’t be so quick to judge others for their differences.
