As a first year graduate student in speech pathology, I found this article to be very interesting. I am frequently asked whether bilingualism effects language development, but I had never thought about the effect on fluency. I am curious as to whether second-language learning during the late preschool years can “cause” a child to begin to stutter, particularly if that child was predisposed to stuttering via a family history, etc. Or, do you believe the child would have stuttered as a unilingual speaker as well?
