Again putting aside the potential value of choral speaking - for devil's advocate reasons - I can't help thinking that it would be very tempting for therapists working with a notoriously difficult population to play the 'choral speaking card.' That is, if success is being measured at a snail's pace, at least I can have them to choral speaking and get some automatic (if cheap) results. As a grade school client in the 1960s, one of the few things I remember from speech therapy was some choral reading with the therapist. Looking back on it now, I really can't imagine what the point was. I went into a little room with the therapist, did some perfectly fluent reading along with her, and then went home and stuttered as usual. I really can't imagine the context in which that exercise would have been therapeutic, beyond providing a little mental health relief for the poor woman. It certainly did me no harm, and she was a nice lady, so I don't begrudge her a little faux success. ;-)
