Hi Abby, thanks for your positive comments, and your question. If 'tools' refers to the tape recorder, then - like you - that's what I begin with. Usually, listening to onself is a bit strange at first, so it may take some time to manage well. Video or camcorder (obviously) can provide visual feedbak as well as auditory, and may be helpful. The aim is to get the client to self-monitor without auditory or visual feedback, so keep it simple and encourage self-evaluation. Slowing down helps, but also requires feedback. Ultimately, working in small groups where positive feedback or prompting with agreed cues will help transfer skills to social situations. hope this helps? sorry for delay in replying. Margaret.
