Karrie, First of all, I have to tell you up front that I do not have a vast amount of experience working with people who clutter, since they are relatively rare in terms of coming in for treatment. I have not followed any client for more than a few years, so I cannot say what the impact of early intervention might be. The one thing I feel comfortable saying is that early intervention can help by preventing years of frustration at not being understood by listeners. This has already been the case for Claudia, who is really enjoying interacting with others and being understood. Your question about whether maturation is sufficient to moderate symptoms of cluttering is a good one, but another question that I don't think I can answer with any certainty. I have spoken with people who clutter who, on recognizing that people did not understand them, were able to modify their way of speaking and become more clear. This level of awareness probably came with maturation and the ability to evaluate their own speaking patterns. So, I'm sure that maturation and increasing self-awareness and self-management has benefited some individuals. Thanks for posting two very good questions. Regards, Lynne
