This paper was very helpful in explaining more about the issues that go along with a cluttering problem. I do not know much about cluttering as I am just finishing the last couple of weeks of my undergraduate career and have had a class on stuttering for half of a semester (in which the word “cluttering” was mentioned but not discussed in-depth and was kind of lumped in—making me think that they are very similar disorders). This article has helped to clarify more about what differentiates cluttering from stuttering in general. The idea that focusing on “clear speech” helped more than “slow speech” (as what has been found to be successful for stutterers) helps to clarify how different cluttering is from stuttering. Overall, do you think that more clutterers are not diagnosed as having a cluttering issue because they are misdiagnosed as having Autism or another disorder on that spectrum? To me, it seems like most of the problems that Claudia was experiencing were common problems with Autism, how did you determine that she had a cluttering disorder on top of her Autistic tendencies that needed to be worked on along side with the cluttering problems?
