Yes, people do notice, and have commented on the improvement in my fluency. However, to attain this level of fluency, I had to stop caring about what the people in my life noticed about me. Too many of us - in too many ways - worry about what others think of us. To be truly free, we have to worry about ourselves and not what others think of us. Thus, their "noticing a change" had nothing to do with my gain in fluency. Their "noticing" neither made it easier or harder, since their "noticing" my fluency/disfluency no longer mattered.
