Brandi, thanks for writing. As I mentioned in my response to Bonnie on October 8, I have never worked with a school age child who would not participate in this activity. I have also adapted the Dear Abby activity for some young high school students. Some of these young teens easily participate, but others catch on real quick that they are really being asked to talk openly about their own thoughts on stuttering. Unfortunately, some teens who stutter have so much shame built up around their speech that the clinician is really challenged to support students in discussing stuttering openly in any manner.
